A Hawke's Bay woman has died after being treated for burns she received on Christmas Day.
The 42-year-old woman was burned on a large portion of her body at a home in Whakatu, north of Hastings, about 7.10pm on Christmas Day, and her 49-year-old partner was burned on his hands and arms.
Her partner's condition remains stable, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange said.
Police were investigating how the incident happened but had not been able to speak to the woman before she died, or to her partner yet.
They would be examining the Whakatu property and speaking with people who contacted emergency services to begin to establish what happened.
