LATEST: A fire has destroyed 500 square metres of Invercargill's James Hargest College senior campus this morning.
A fire communications spokesman said crews arrived at the scene about 5.50am to find buildings well ablaze.
They had suffered extensive damage and fire investigators were examining the scene.
Six fire crews were still at the school this morning, continuing to damp down the fire.
It was likely they would be there for some time today, the spokesman said.
The block was in the process of being refurbished.
