A Wellington road has reopened after a collision between a car and a bike that left one person dead.
Police have finished at the scene on Ohariu Valley Rd, but said it was too soon to speculate about how the crash may have happened.
A police communications spokesman said the cyclist and the car collided about 9.20am.
The cyclist was a man believed to be aged in his 50s.
The Serious Crash Unit was investigating and closed off the road, which runs between Johnsonville and Rifle Range roads, for several hours.
A few hours after the crash, police said a second cyclist had been hit outside the city's Freyberg Pool on Oriental Parade.
The person was knocked off their bike just before midday but the scene was cleared within half an hour.
The condition of the cyclist was not known.
