A helicopter crewman was dropped into the water to rescue a teenage swimmer in Auckland's Tamaki Estuary this morning.
Members of the public noticed the17-year-boy was in trouble at 9.50am while swimming near Point England.
Police sent both the Eagle helicopter and a maritime unit to help.
When the helicopter arrived, the crew could see the swimmer was in "serious difficulties and immediate danger" so dropped a crew member into the water with a life jacket.
The teenager was helped to the shore and checked out by St John ambulance staff.
He did not require medical treatment.
