A man has been hurt by a stingray at a Far North beach this morning.
St John ambulance said the man was reportedly hit by a barb from the stingray at the beach on the Karikari Peninsula.
A local fire brigade was also heading to the remote location to help, St John spokesman Norm Ngatai said.
Stingrays are not known to attack people unless they are threatened.
Australian wildlife expert and personality Steve Irwin was famously killed by a stingray barb through the chest in 2006.
