A person has drowned and another is recovering in hospital after a dinghy capsized off the Otago Peninsula this afternoon, police say.
Police were called to Papanui Inlet about 2pm after the boat tipped.
One of the pair could not be revived after being pulled from the water, senior sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said.
The other person had grabbed onto a buoy.
The survivor was flown to Dunedin Hospital by rescue helicopter and treated for water inhalation, he said.
It appeared the pair had not had lifejackets on board the boat, Lloyd said.
