A man who died after a boating accident near Dunedin was Robert Wilfred Clearwater, 75, of Portobello, on the Otago Peninsula.
Clearwater was one of two men thrown into the water at Papanui Inlet on the peninsula yesterday when their dinghy capsized.
Police said the other man was able to hold on to a buoy, but Clearwater encountered difficulties.
They were not wearing life jackets.
People who witnessed the accident tried to help, but Clearwater could not be revived.
Emergency services including the Otago rescue helicopter attended, with the survivor treated at Dunedin Public Hospital for suspected water inhalation.
