A woman missing in bush near Murupara overnight has been found safe and well.

The 47-year-old Murupara woman was part of a group of 10 people walking and running around a loop track yesterday in the Whirinaki Forest Park, about 100km southeast of Rotorua.

She was found about 12.45pm today by a waterfall close to the track about 8km south of Minginui, police said.

"The woman is cold and hungry, but otherwise unhurt. She is still to be spoken to in any detail but it appears at this stage that she may have taken a wrong turn, becoming separated from the rest of the party."

After being alerted about 8.30pm yesterday, police sent out a search and rescue squad which looked for the woman until 4.30am.

At first light today a further four teams were sent out, made up of police staff, search and rescue volunteers, a mountain bike team and friends of the missing woman
