A Korean tourist has died on the Milford Track.

The 68-year-old reportedly collapsed while tramping the popular track at 11.30am yesterday.

A track guide raised the alarm and carried out CPR for some time.

When a doctor and police search and rescue personnel from Te Anau arrived, the man was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Tod Hollebon of Te Anau police said that the cloudy weather at McKinnon Pass, where the incident occurred, made access more difficult.

Police are working with the Korean Embassy to inform family members back in Korea.

There are no suspicious circumstances to the death and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
