A burning car is thought to have caused a scrub fire in Welcome Bay, Tauranga, which threatened homes and caravans.
The Fire Service said it was first alerted to the car fire about 1.40pm and then received reports the fire had spread to scrub and was threatening properties.
By 3.15pm some firefighters were leaving the scene, while others remained on hand to dampen down hotspots in the 2000sqm area affected by the blaze.
