A woman has suffered serious injuries after the car she was in flipped while attempting an overtaking move.
Three other people in the car were also injured in the crash, on Te Mata Mangateretere Rd in Havelock North.
A 22-year-old male lost control of his car while attempting to overtake another vehicle, about 1.50am.
The car has slid out before overturning and rolling, and ended up smashing into a concrete power pole, Sergeant Clint Adamson said.
There were four passengers in the car.
A 21-year-old female suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at the Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital.
A 20-year-old male suffered moderate injuries. A 16-year-old female and 20-year-old male had minor injuries. The driver also suffered minor injuries.
The police serious crash unit is investigating the incident.
