While some mild showers did turn up unexpectedly in parts of the country, the rain was nowhere near enough to alleviate the drought.

Join us daily for a summary of what the weather is expected to bring and, most importantly, if there is any rain on the horizon.

Northland

Cloudy today with a high of 23 Degrees Celsius. No rain forecast today and none fell yesterday.

Auckland

A high of 26C, not a cloud in the sky. Auckland is set for yet another scorcher and very little chance of rain.

Bay of Plenty

It should be slightly cooler today, with a high in most parts expected to reach 24C. The last time it rained here was January 11, when just 0.2mm fell - recorded at Rotorua Airport. There will be no rain today.

Waikato

Waikato has had 1mm of rain in the past month. Temperatures in parts will soar to to 28C, with no rain expected.

Hawke's Bay

Cloudy over much of the region, with a high of 21C in Napier and Hastings. No rain for those cities, but Gisborne could wake to light showers this morning. Only 0.5mm is expected to fall there.

Taranaki

A sunny, cloudless day with a high of 24C in New Plymouth and most surrounding areas. The temperature gauge could top that in other places. There was 10.6mm of rainfall recorded at New Plymouth Airport on March 3, but that's the only rainfall this month.

Manawatu/Whanganui

Expected to be declared a drought zone in the coming days. The temperature in Palmerston North and Whanganui will be slightly cooler today on 24C, with some cloud cover in Manawatu. No rain today.

Wellington/Wairarapa

Cloudy with some wind in the capital today, with a high of 19C expected. Slightly warmer across the Rimutakas, with a high expected of 21C. No rain.

Nelson/Marlborough

Cloudless and sunny, with temperatures expected to reach 23 in most parts. No rain.

West Coast

Cloudy today with a high of about 20C. A smattering of rain in some parts, but no game changer. Expect about 0.4mm throughout the afternoon and evening.

Canterbury

Cloudy, with a temperature high of about 18C in and around Christchurch. Oamaru got the record rainfall for the country yesterday - a meagre 0.2mm. None expected today.

Otago

Sunny, calm and dry in and around Alexandra and other parts. Perhaps some cloud. Temperature expected to top 26C in most parts. There has been not a single recorded drop of rain in this region over the past 30 days, and none expected today.
