Morning showers are set to clear for many parts of the North Island today with a new high-pressure system ushering in a day of sunshine for much of the country.
The trough that brought much-needed rain to parts of New Zealand passed over the country late yesterday, with MetService saying by the end of the week, the entire country would be under another spell of dry weather.
Northland
A cloudy day is in store for Northland today, with the chance of showers. A southeasterly wind should develop, with a high of 22 degrees Celsius.
Auckland
Early morning showers for Auckland should clear up for a fine day with a high of 23C.
Bay of Plenty
The Bay of Plenty is set for a fine day after early morning showers clear. The southerly wind dies off. A high of 22C for Tauranga, and 20C for Rotorua.
Waikato
With a high of 22C, Waikato is set for early morning showers, which should clear for a fine day with light winds.
Hawke's Bay
Rain is expected to ease to a few showers this morning. Southerly winds for the region, with a high of 19C.
Taranaki
New Plymouth is set for a fine day, with a high of 21C. Southeasterly winds should die away at night.
Manawatu/Whanganui
Blue skies for Manawatu, with a high of 19C. Southeasterlies die away at night.
Wellington/Wairarapa
Showers should clear in the morning, with southerlies dying out. A high of 16C for the capital.
Nelson/Marlborough
A high of 19C for Nelson, with a fine day and light winds.
West Coast
A fine day is in store for the West Coast, with cloud at night. Light winds with a high of 18C.
Canterbury
Morning cloud in Christchurch will clear to reveal a fine day with light winds. A high of 17C.
Otago
Dunedin is set for a fine day, with cloud from the afternoon. The high will be 18C, with southwesterly winds dying out.
Southland
It should be a cloudy day in Southland today, with a few light showers. A westerly should pick up for a fresh afternoon. A high of 16C is expected.
