Man sleeping under truck trailer killed
A man killed this morning in Whangarei had been sleeping under the trailer of a truck when it drove off, police believe.
At about 5.45am Whangarei police were called out to an incident which they initially described as a "collision between a car and pedestrian".
The trailer had been parked overnight in the carpark of the Information Centre on Otaika Road.
The truck driver returned to his vehicle early this morning, attached the trailer and drove off - unaware that the man was asleep under it, police said.
Police were trying to locate the truck driver and would like to speak with him.
They were currently in the process of identifying the dead man.
