Second cyclist killed in three days

A woman cyclist killed after being hit by a car in Aranui this morning was Joanne Marjorie Drummond, 54, of Christchurch, police said.

She was the second cyclist has been killed in Christchurch in three days.

The accident comes just three days after cyclist Carl Taylor, 31, was killed after being hit by a car in the same suburb.

A witness to this morning's crash said it appeared the cyclist was struck when a vehicle travelling west on Wainoni Rd, turned left into Breezes Rd shortly after 9am.

She said that when paramedics arrived the said the woman was dead.

Police had spoken to the driver at the scene and were interviewing witnesses, and the serious crash unit was examining the site.
