A Wellington motorcyclist died yesterday after a head-on collision with another vehicle near Havelock.
Kenneth Gordon Lilley, 54, was killed when he crashed his motorcycle about 5pm on State Highway 6 at Okaramio, between Blenheim and Havelock.
Tasman district police spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said Lilley was travelling alone from Nelson to Blenheim.
The crash occurred after Lilley braked to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front of him and lost control of his motorcycle, crossing the centre line into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
He was on his way home to Wellington when the accident happened, Dunn said.
He died at the scene.
No-one else was injured in the crash and it appears alcohol was not a factor.
Ambulances from Havelock and Blenheim attended and emergency services were still at the scene almost three hours after the crash.
The police serious crash unit are investigating the crash.
