Earthquake rattles the south

A shallow earthquake has struck west of Te Anau in the deep south.

Centred 25km from Te Anau, at 8.22pm GeoNet reports the 4.3 magnitude quake hit at a depth of 5km.

It was believed to have been widely felt in the deep south.
