Machete wielding man attacks pair at Thames home
Two people have been slashed with a machete by a man who smashed his way into a Thames home.
Detectives from Thames CIB are investigating the attack that unfolded at a home in the centre of the Coromandel town on Tuesday.
One man was left with gashes to his head and hands, while a woman suffered machete wounds to her hand, Waikato police Senior Sergeant Dean Anderson said.
Both were inside the house when the man forced his way in about 1.20pm, he said.
"A man has broken his way in with a machete,
"There was some nasty lacerations from an assault - it was a domestic, they were known to each other."
Police were called to the home and arrested the man, Anderson said. He was still in the process of being interviewed and would likely appear in Hamilton District Court on Thursday.
He said the pair who were injured received medical attention. The man was taken to Thames Hospital in a moderate condition while the woman went to a local medical centre for treatment.
Police were making further inquiries on Wednesday afternoon.
