Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter choppered two patients out of Whitianga on Thursday.

A 44-year-old man is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital after being thrown 20 metres from his motorbike.

The man crashed into a ditch in Whitianga after he swerved to avoid a parked car.

The 2.13pm callout was the first of two for the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter in the Whitianga area on Thursday. 

The second, at 4.55pm, also involved a two-wheeled vehicle and a ditch.

A 10-year-old boy flew over the handlebars of his bicycle when trying to avoid an oncoming car in Matarangi.

He was flown to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
