Police divers search the waters of Lake Rotoiti for the body of missing man Colin McCormick.

The man who disappeared in Lake Rotoiti is Colin McCormick from Auckland.

The 48 year old, who is presumed drowned, was last seen on January 4 on the Rotorua lake with his partner and 9-year-old son, on a 5 metre fibre glass boat.

The trio were making their way to the hot pools at Manupiura on the southern side of the lake around 2pm when McCormick's hat came off. He jumped into the water to retrieve it and his lifejacket came off.

He went under water and has not been seen since.

On Monday, police said they were hopeful will they would locate the body of McCormick.

Police said in a statement, on Wednesday police divers and partner agencies were lake-side and on the water with several vessels in anticipation of recovering the body.

They said they will continue the search on Thursday.
