A woman killed after being struck by a truck crossing State Highway 1 near Timaru this morning has been named.
Donna Lee Switalla, also known as Donna Lee Hunter, aged 41, of Washdyke, died near the intersection of the highway and Falvey Rd, near Seadown, at about 9.30am.
Sergeant David Hinde said it appeared the woman had been walking or jogging south towards Timaru, alongside the northbound lane, when she veered onto the road.
She was then struck by a truck and trailer travelling north.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The truck driver was not injured, but was "very shaken by the incident", Hinde said.
The serious crash unit and commercial vehicle investigation unit attended the scene, and inquiries were continuing.
A detour put in place was removed about 1.30pm.
