Car collides with passenger train
A car has collided with a passenger train on a rail crossing on the main truck line between National Park and Raetihi.
Two occupants of the vehicle were believed to be injured - one with moderate injuries, the other with moderate to serious injuries.
A Police Northern Communications spokesman said the driver was "walking around" while the passenger was taken to hospital in a rescue helicopter.
A KiwiRail spokeswoman said the crash happened just after 1pm at the Matapuna crossing at Horopito, just outside the car yard used in the 1981 film Smash Palace.
"The car hit the Northern Explorer train," she said. "Their were no injuries on board the train. The train was travelling north from Wellington to Auckland with 44 passengers on board.
"There was no damage to the train and they managed to get under way just after 2pm. They were delayed by about an hour and a half," she said.
Emergency services from Ohakune and Taumarunui attended the incident.
