Canterbury homes still without power
About 300 homes are still without power after strong winds brought down power lines overnight Friday in Canterbury.
An Orion spokeswoman said about 300 homes, mainly in the rural inland area southwest of Christchurch, were still without power.
Overnight Friday, strong winds downed power lines cutting power to about 10,000 homes in Canterbury.
By last night, 700 were still without power, but where it was safe to do so crews continued working into the night.
The spokeswoman said they hoped to have power fully restored to most homes later today.
