Woman sought in baby death probe
Police investigating the death of a baby boy in Whangarei are seeking help to identify a woman seen on his street the day he died.
Atreyu Taylor-Matene, aged one, died in Starship in Auckland on last week from head injuries.
A homicide inquiry was begun after the death.
Detectives working on the case have said the focus so far has been establishing how Atreyu's head injuries occurred.
As part of the inquiry, they said today they would like to identify and speak to a woman seen on Carlton Cresent, Kamo at around 10.00am on Friday July 12.
She was described as approximately 20-years-old with dark skin, a slim build and was approximately 1.65m or 5"5 tall.
Police said she had her dark hair tied back and was wearing a dark grey hoodie and light grey track pants with two stripes down the legs, with black "Chuck Taylor" style shoes.
Twenty officers are working on the homicide case, police said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Whangarei Police on 09 430 4500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
