The bloated carcass of a cow found floating in the Waitemata Harbour has been removed after concerns it would become a hazard for vessels.
A spokeswoman for the Auckland Council Harbourmaster said the cow was found floating off Westhaven, near the Harbour Bridge, about 11.30am.
Animal control was called and this afternoon retrieved the body which had floated into the middle of the harbour.
The spokeswoman said they were called out to retrieve an animal carcass from the harbour about once every six months.
