A "strong" 4.5 magnitude quake ash struck off the Bay of Plenty.
The quake, which occurred at 10.43pm, was centred 100 km north-east of Te Araroa at a depth of 14km.
Meanwhile, a GeoNet report of a 4.1 magnitude quake near Hamner Springs at 8.59pm has been removed.
