The woman hit and killed by a car in Northland last night has been named as 28-year-old mother of two Georgina Manuel.
She died early this morning after being taken to hospital with serious injuries from being hit by a vehicle in Kaitaia about 10pm.
Police began a homicide inquiry after the death. They found a vehicle thought to be linked to the incident and were examining it for evidence this morning.
A 45-year-old man then handed himself in to Whangarei police at 11.45am.
Police are speaking with him.
Detectives said they still wanted to hear from anyone with information who may have seen or heard anything in Pukepoto Rd and Grigg St about 10pm.
An autopsy to determine the cause of Manuel's death would be carried out in Auckland tomorrow.
