Person dead after being trapped by a truck near Queenstown
A person has died and another is critically injured after being hit by a truck at an exclusive Queenstown subdivision.
A police spokeswoman confirmed emergency services attended the incident at the gated community of Closeburn Station, about 15kim from the city centre, at about 3.50pm.
As of 7pm, a scene guard was in place and police were yet to inform the next of kin of the deceased person. No information on the identities of those involved was available, a statement from police said.
Emergency services worked for more than an hour to free a second person after the incident.
A reporter at the entrance to the subdivision saw several large trucks arrive carrying crane equipment.
Residents were also prevented from entering the community, told by emergency services to return in "a couple of hours".
Communications in the area were difficult and it was difficult to get updates, the police spokeswoman said.
Closeburn Station is a working farm and exclusive housing area about 10 minutes drive from Queenstown on the Queenstown-Glenorchy Rd.
It is understood Kiwi billionaire Graeme Hart purchased a holiday home in the station for about $24 million recently.
