One-year-old in stable condition after falling in pond at Hastings showgrounds
A 1-year-old boy is in a stable condition in hospital after being pulled unresponsive from a pond at Hawke's Bay A&P Showgrounds on Sunday afternoon.
The boy was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a critical condition after the incident, about 4.30pm.
He was pulled out of the shallow pond, and people at the scene started CPR until St John paramedics arrived.
On Monday morning the hospital said he was in a stable condition on the children's ward.
It is understood the boy was at the showgrounds in Hastings with his parents when he fell.
The pond, popular for feeding eels, is not fenced.
