Prisoners attack staff at Auckland prison
Prison officers were attacked by two inmates at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting prison director Tom Sherlock said the prisoners "allegedly assaulted" staff members, resulting in one of the prisoners needing medical treatment on site.
"At this stage there are no reported serious injuries to staff," he said. He would not confirm whether the prison was put into lockdown as a result of the incident.
A police spokeswoman said police were informed of the incident at 2pm and were investigating.

Sherlock said the prison had zero tolerance towards violence.
"Any violence or assaults towards staff or other prisoners will not be tolerated and any prisoner who uses such behaviour will be held to account," he said.
The last major attack at Auckland Prison involved four inmates attacking six prison guards in October last year.
