A man, in his late 20s, was flown to Taranaki Base Hospital on Thursday, where he remains in a stable condition.

A surfer who was found injured on a Taranaki beach and flown to hospital remains in a stable condition.

The man, who is in his late 20s, was airlifted to Taranaki Base Hospital following a call-out to Kaihihi Rd in Okato at about 6pm on Thursday.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed a member of the public called for help after finding the man on the beach.  He looked like he had been injured and was cold, she said.

Due to the location, a road ambulance was not able to reach the stricken surfer so the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter crew was sent to the scene.
