Driver bending down to pick up wallet may have caused Lincoln car vs bus crash
A car has collided with a bus near Christchurch.
Police Senior Constable Mike Harker said a Mazda Demio was travelling on Raineys Rd towards Lincoln before it crashed with a Go Bus coach about 8.10am on Friday.
"The bus driver has come the opposite way on a one-way bridge. He's stopped short of the bridge as he's seen the vehicle approaching," he said.
"The other fella has continued over the bridge, hasn't seen the bus and collided with the bus."
A St John spokesman said three people had been treated for minor injuries and did not require transport to hospital.
Harker said there were two children on the bus along with the driver. The car appeared to be a write-off while the bus sustained only minor damage.
Police were investigating why the driver of the car did not see the bus, he said.
"The investigation is still carrying on, but he's told police that he was bending down to pick up his wallet."
Fire Service southern communications shift manager Riwai Grace said firefighters also attended the crash.
