Frozen cake prompts bomb fears in Dunedin
An abandoned box of defrosting birthday cake sparked a police callout.
Police were called to a bus stop in the Dunedin suburb of St Kilda, after a person raised concern over an abandoned cardboard box on Monday, about 3.25pm.
Officers arriving at the scene found the box contained frozen cake.
"I suspect someone had a very disappointing birthday party because their cake was left on the bus stop," a police spokeswoman said.
Police were not in a position to comment on what happened to the cake.
The call came just days after a large part of central Dunedin was cordoned off after a suspicious package was found at a NZ Post branch on Moray Pl.
Police confirmed the package was not an explosive device, and had interviewed the person responsible.
Police were yet to determine if there was any "criminal liability".
