The death of a 12-year-old girl on train tracks in South Auckland is not considered suspicious.
The schoolgirl died on a level crossing at Takanini at 2.45pm yesterday and the case has been referred to the coroner.
Papakura area commander Inspector Jim Searle confirmed the incident was not being treated as an accident, and was instead being referred to the coroner and that there were no suspicious circumstances.
Her family had been informed and were receiving assistance from Victim Support.
Identification issues meant police originally thought the victim was in her 30s, Searle said.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dion Bentley said the 25 passengers on the train were also being supported by Victim Support.
