Man hit by truck at Lyttelton Port

A Lyttelton port worker is dead after being hit by a logging truck.

Emergency services were called to Log Wharf at 3.19pm.

"The man is believed to have been struck by a logging truck while walking on a port road at No 2 Wharf," police said. 

Bystanders and paramedics attempted to perform CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believed the man was an employee of a contracting firm at the port.

Police and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) are investigating.
