A fisherman has been found dead after falling off his boat in the port of Napier.
The skipper of the commercial fishing boat alerted the Hawke's Bay coastguard around 4.45am to say one of his crew had fallen overboard.
The boat was about one nautical mile off the Napier Port when the man fell.
Police, Coastguard, Search and Rescue, and a rescue helicopter immediately started searching.
Around 8.30am, he was found dead, said coastguard skipper and duty manager Neil Daykin.
His body was found around two nautical miles from where he entered the water, said police.
It is not known how the man fell overboard, and police are today interviewing everyone who was on the boat at the time.
