An 8 -year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a reversing car.

The boy was flown by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter from Lower Moutere, near Motueka, to Nelson Hospital about 8pm. 

He had been ''struck by a reversing moving vehicle at low speed," according to the rescue service. He was treated by the onboard intensive care paramedic and flown to hospital in a stable condition.
