Two dead in West Coast crash

A car driving down a hill slid off a bend and landed upside down in a creek on the West Coast today, killing a woman and her teenage son, police said.

A pre-school-age boy in the car survived and has been taken to Grey Base hospital.

Highway Patrol Sergeant Dave Cross said the crash occurred in wet conditions near Taylorville, about 10km East of Greymouth, just before 11am.

Police said the 43-year-old woman was from Greymouth. Police were in the process of notifiying next of kin.

The Taylorville road was closed as a result, with traffic diverting via Dobson.
