A boy killed when he was hit by a truck in South Auckland last night was walking across the road after using a school pool, say police.
Police said the four-year-old was part of a group using Mauku School's pool when he was struck on Union Road, Mauku, near Pukekohe.
"Unfortunately, a crash has taken place between the truck and boy on the road," Inspector Neil Fisher, Counties Manukau Police Road Policing Manager said.
The boy died from his injuries at Starship Hospital last night.
"We're deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life."
Counties Manukau Police's Serious Crash Unit was investigating the incident today.
