Police say they are now "very concerned" for the wellbeing of a British tourist who is overdue while walking the Te Araroa Trail between Nelson Lakes and the Boyle River.
Andrew Ian Wyatt, 41 of Cornwall, who came to New Zealand in November, was last seen at Blue Lake in Nelson Lakes National Park about December 14.
He wanted to tramp to the Boyle Village in the Lewis Pass, where he was due to pick up a food package on December 16.
He then planned to carry on to Arthurs Pass where he had another food parcel to collect.
Another tramper spoke with him at the Blue Lake hut, but Wyatt has never arrived at Boyle Village.
Searchers said it was possible Wyatt had now left the area where he was thought to be intending to tramp.
A helicopter search of the Nelson Lakes area was due to take place today.
