Man shot in buttocks with air rifle

A man has been charged following the shooting of a man in the buttocks with an air rifle while he stood outside a Hamilton Pizza Hut.

The man, 18, was arrested by police yesterday at a house on Grey St. An air rifle with a scope, stand and pellets were found in the search.

The victim was talking to a friend outside the Claudelands Pizza Hut franchise about 7pm on Christmas Eve when he was shot once, police said.

He did not require any medical attention and later identified for police a house on Grey St where he believed the shot had come from.

About the same time a woman on River Road, Claudelands, narrowly avoided being shot in the face by an air rifle.

"The man as been arrested and charged with this incident and another of the same nature in the area on Tuesday the 24th of December," a police statement read.

The man was bailed to appear in the Hamilton District Court in early January.
