Te Rapa's famous Pumice Bistro Bar and Deli has been destroyed by fire.
The award-winning restaurant is now a blackened shell after a fire broke out about 7am today.
Shocked staff said the cause of the fire was unknown.
Seven fire crews were called to the scene to battle the blaze but were unable to save the popular eatery.
Church Rd has been cordoned off to traffic and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
In a message posted to their Facebook page, Pumice staff said they were "devastated" by the fire.
Pumice would be closed until further notice.
