A West Auckland police station was evacuated after a man brought a World War II practice bomb into the station.

The man had found the bomb while digging in his Henderson garden this afternoon.

Parts of the Henderson police station and the road outside were cordoned off as the bomb squad removed the bomb from the station about 12.45pm.

Police are reminding people to leave undisturbed any item suspected to be a hazard and to tell police.
