11 fire engines called to blaze
Guests at a luxury lodge near Whangamata have escaped unharmed after a large fire this morning.
Northern fire communications shift manager Tania Matthews said the Fire Service was called to Wentworth Lodge about 2.45am and 11 fire engines were needed to put out the blaze at one of the two-storey buildings on the site.
"It was a pretty substantial fire.
"One of the walls of the two-storey building has collapsed."
Everyone staying at the lodge was accounted for and there were no reported injuries, Matthews said.
Six engines remained at the property this morning to monitor the situation.
The Wentworth lodge is located about 7km southwest of Whangamata.
It has 12 rooms in all, with skeet shooting, target shooting, and archery some of the activities offered on site.
