A young girl has been airlifted to hospital after a two-car crash in Northland.
The accident happened about 1.30pm today in Whakapara Rd heading towards Rawhiti, near Russell.
Police said a girl, aged about 5, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by helicopter.
Another child, about 6, was uninjured.
The driver, in his 30s, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the other vehicle, in his early 50s, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to hospital, police said.
They said initial indications were that one of the cars crossed the centre line.
Police have set up diversions while the crash scene is examined.
People travelling from Russell to Rawhiti will need to catch the ferry to Opua and then travel south and on to Waikare Rd.
People travelling from Rawhiti to Russell or other destinations north or south will need to take Waikare Rd and then State Highway 1.
