$1 million win for Blenheim family
Playing the same lottery numbers week in, week out for almost thirty years has finally paid off for a family syndicate, to the tune of $1 million.
The Blenheim family has played the same numbers since Lotto started and scored big with a first division win on Wednesday.
The family syndicate was headed by two main players, who did not want to be identified.
One half of the team said she received a call from the other who watched the draw.
"She just kept yelling 'we've won Lotto, we've won!' I couldn't believe it," she said.
"I raced down the hall to wake up my husband, and while he was initially grumpy that I woke him up, it was all soon forgotten when I told him we'd just won Lotto."
The winners checked, re-checked, and checked their ticket again, and had to make a cup of tea to calm their nerves, she said.
"I honestly don't think either of us got a wink of sleep that night. We just lay there pinching ourselves. We just kept thinking that things like this never happen to people like us."
The winning pair purchased the ticket from Countdown Springlands, and returned to the supermarket to confirm their win on Thursday.
"When we finally knew for sure that we were the winners, well it was an incredible feeling. We are all just so happy," the winner said.
"It has all been a bit of a blur, but there will definitely be a family holiday on the cards in the near future."
The family had been playing Lotto for so long that it was still hard to believe they had won, she said.
"It's kind of tradition now. I buy the ticket on a Wednesday and another family member buys it on Saturday. We've been playing so long we know the numbers off by heart!"
