There is still no word on a man who was seen falling off rocks into the sea on the Coromandel last night.
A witness saw the incident unfold at about 5pm at the south end of Whiritoa Beach, but did not see the man resurface, police said.
The man was on the rocks for an hour prior to entering the water and was described as wearing a white shirt, Senior Sergeant Gael Mockford of the Hamilton police said.
"Due to the witness needing to leave the beach to call for assistance, police are unsure if the male that entered the water is still missing,'' Mockford said.
Police are appealing to the public for any further sightings of the man.
