Police have named of the 3-month old baby who died after suffering serious injuries in a reported fall at his Riverton home in Southland.
He was Honour Shamrock Ashworth. The baby was flown to Starship children's hospital on Monday night in a critical condition and later died as a result of his injuries.
Emergency services were called to the Havelock St home at 7.25pm on Monday and told a baby boy had suffered serious injuries and was unresponsive.
Riverton Volunteer Fire Brigade chief fire officer Helen Bull said firefighters, who were first on the scene, found the baby unconscious on the lounge floor.
A police investigation was underway to determine whether there was any criminal culpability, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Bowman said.
