Cyclist dies after collision with car

A cyclist has died after a collision with a car on a rural road in Kerikeri this morning.

Police said William Bayliss, a 54-year-old local man, was cycling along Kapiro Rd when the incident happened about 8.10am.

Ambulance staff worked to try and save Bayliss but he passed away at the scene of the collision.

Police said sections of Kapiro Rd and nearby State Highway 10 would remain closed until mid-afternoon while their serious crash unit investigated the scene.
