A 2-year-old girl has serious head injuries after being hit by a car as she played in her driveway.
A neighbour called police just after 10am today after he heard screams for help coming from the home in Mangere, South Auckland, Sergeant Kylie Newton of the Counties Manukau police said.
"The child was struck by the vehicle as it was reversing and received head injuries from the driveway," Newton said.
The girl was rushed to Middlemore Hospital with a serious head cut and is in a stable condition in the hospital's critical care unit.
Newton says it was too early to reveal who was driving the car - a Holden sedan.
An investigation is underway, and police have yet to decide whether charges will be laid.
